Therapy dogs are trained to provide comfort care to people in various settings like hospitals, schools, and nursing homes, offering affection and a calming presence to those in need.

Here’s a brief overview of the process required to certify a dog as a Therapy Dog.

  • What they do: Therapy dogs are NOT SERVICE DOGS, but they are specifically trained to provide compassionate comfort care and emotional support through gentle interaction and a calming presence.

  • Where they work: They visit hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, schools, libraries, disaster areas, and other places where people may benefit from their companionship.

  • Benefits: Therapy dogs can help reduce stress, anxiety, and loneliness, and can also improve communication and social interaction for individuals in need.

  • Training: Therapy dogs undergo specific training to ensure they are calm, friendly, and comfortable interacting with people of all ages, backgrounds and different environments.

  • Temperament: They need to be obedient, calm, gentle, outgoing, and not easily overwhelmed.

  • Popular Breeds: While any dog can be a therapy dog, some breeds are known for their temperament and suitability for this role, including Golden Retrievers, and Labrador Retrievers, for example.

  • Certification: Therapy dogs will be certified through Therapy Dogs International (TDI).

With your help, we can provide specialized training for therapy dogs and their handlers. This program aims to equip dogs with essential skills that allow them to assist individuals in therapeutic settings, supporting those who are dealing with a range of emotional and physical challenges.

By fostering a strong bond between the dogs and their owners through targeted activities, we can greatly improve the effectiveness of therapy sessions. Our method focuses on positive reinforcement techniques that not only teach dogs important behaviors but also empower owners to better understand and connect with their beloved pets.

Together, we can create a nurturing environment where both dogs and humans thrive, ultimately enhancing the well-being of everyone involved.
